Entry Fees:
There is no entry fee for this department
Exhibitors can register starting Saturday, June 1, 2024 through 9:59 pm PST on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Link for the entry can be found in the downloadable PDF.
In Time:
Entries accepted Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Release Time:
Exhibits will be released from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 28, 2024.
Specific Rules:
1. Exhibitors should refer to the General Fair Rules and Regulations in the 2024 Exhibitor Handbook.
2. The Fair Board and Management cannot be responsible for paintings, but every possible precaution is taken to protect them.
3. NO EXHIBIT SMALLER THAN 5” X 7”, NOR LARGER THAN 28” X 32” WILL BE ACCEPTED
4. Professional – People with training who exhibit or sell their works will not be allowed to compete for cash awards.
5. Amateur – Painters over 18 years of age that are casual painters, hobbyists, and beginner painters.
6. Judges reserve the right to reclassify any painting.
7. Opinions of the judges will be final.
8. The name and address of the artist must be on the back of each painting.
9. Items entered in previous exhibits at the Fair cannot be entered again.
10. No paintings over five (5) years old.
11. No two (2) items may be entered in the same Lot and Class.
12. All paintings must be securely wired for hanging. Patent hooks, string and/or tape will not be accepted.
13. Child entries must be firmly attached to a sheet of poster board or heavy cardboard and wired for hanging.
14. Art without adequate hangers will NOT be accepted.
15. Due to the weight and danger of injury if shattered, all fine art over 30 inches which needs a transparent cover must use light-weight plastic or plexiglass, rather than glass.
16. No picture painted by number will be accepted.
17. Paintings and frames must be THOROUGHLY dry.
18. Paintings found unsuitable for family viewing will not be accepted.
19. An original is a work done from life or from a photo taken from life (not of another artist’s work). All entries must be an original. NO copies of another artists work will be accepted.
20. Any item found to be entered and not in accordance with the rules will be removed and no ribbon or award will be given.
21. Misrepresentation of any item as to originality, etc. will automatically disqualify all items by the same artist.
22. Acrylics will be judged with oils.
23. Tole paintings will be accepted in the Domestic Arts department, under Hobbies and Crafts.
24. Child and Youth ages are required on all items. Limit one (1) entry per Lot.
25. Digital Art Prints must be mounted on mat board or foam-core board. Framed prints are not accepted.
26. Smallest acceptable Digital Art print (any shape) must contain 80 square inches of picture area, exclusive of border or mat. A rectangular print of 8 X 10 inches and an oval print of 9 ½ X 12 inches equal 80 square inches. *The print size does not include the mat. Mat borders may not exceed more than two (2) inches.
27. Largest acceptable digital art print size is 16 X 20 inches.

Prize awards shall be paid by check, or in cash if under $10 total, issued by the Cowlitz County Fair office as soon as all entry records are received and processed, and payment can be reasonably made. All points are worth 15 cents each, unless stated otherwise. Checks must be cashed within 60 days of the date of issue; otherwise, funds will be forfeited back to the Fair. The Fair Office must be notified of any errors on the check within 60 days of issue.

Interactive Demonstration: Educate Fairgoers how to make or do something. Bring materials for participants to actively learn and take away their creation.

Informative Demonstration: Educate Fairgoers how to do something. Make it a fun learning experience where they can take what they learn from you and do it at home. Bring props, help tell your story.
